Not the flowers. Not the venue. Not even the photographer lurking in the corner trying to catch your dad cry. The celebrant. They set the tone for the entire ceremony and they’re the ones who turn two people who are absolutely terrified into two people who are officially married.
I’ve photographed enough Mildura weddings to know that the celebrant can make or break the room. A great one reads the energy, tells your actual story, and somehow keeps things moving while also giving everyone permission to feel everything. A bad one makes it feel like a government appointment.
So here are the celebrants I’ve seen work magic in Mildura — the ones I’d genuinely recommend to anyone planning a wedding in the region.

PAM NELSON – Pam has been doing this for 14 years and has over 800 ceremonies behind her. That’s not a number you get to by being forgettable. She’s experienced, professional, and genuinely warm. The kind of person who shows up with sunscreen and tissues because she’s done this enough times to know someone’s mum is going to need both. If you want someone who knows every venue in the Mallee, responds to emails like a human being, and will make your nanna feel completely at ease, Pam is your person.

JESSICA GERSTENMAYER – Think: fun, fresh, and warm!
Jessica is warm, professional, and genuinely invested in making your day feel like yours. She’s not going through the motions, she actually cares whether you enjoy your ceremony. If you want someone who brings positive energy without it feeling performative, Jessica is worth a conversation.

Jan Goodieson Mildura Celebrant – “It’s not just about the dress “ Warm and super caring.
Jan’s approach is personal and genuine. She takes the time to actually know your story before she tells it in front of everyone you love. Calm, warm, and quietly funny when the moment calls for it. She’s particularly good at putting nervous grooms at ease which honestly is half the job.

As your photographer I’m always watching the celebrant as much as I’m watching the couple. A good celebrant knows when to pause, when to let a moment breathe, and when to bring the energy back up. Those are the moments I’m hunting for. The laugh that breaks through the tears, the look between two people who can’t quite believe they’re here. The best ceremonies give me a hundred frames worth chasing.
If you’re getting married in Mildura, at a winery, along the Murray, or somewhere with that particular kind of golden dust light the region does so well, start with a Mildura celebrant who feels like a friend and a photographer who knows how to make the most of every moment your day has to offer.
